Computadores antigos usavam monitores CRT e, quando uma imagem era exibida continuamente na tela, ela ficava marcada. Então, screensaver inventado para evitar queimar tela.

Laptops e computadores modernos quase todos usam LCD agora e, AFAIK, eles não são afetados por esse efeito.
