could not insert 'nvidia': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

sudo apt-get install nvidia-364

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt-get update

Reinicie o seu computador.

sudo reboot -i NOW

sudo mv ~/.config/dconf/user ~/.config/dconf/user.old

Em seguida, reinicie o lightdm:

sudo service lightdm restart

Eventualmente, após 3-4 caracteres, permitiu-me desligar a inicialização segura.

Executando o Ubuntu 16.04. Intel HD4600 e Nvidia 765M. Tentei todas as sugestões acima.

No meu caso, apenas instalar a nvidia-364 resolveu o problema.

Remova o nvidia:

sudo apt-get purge nvidia*

e logado. Funcionou, mas a resolução foi limitada a 800x600.

As seguintes etapas resolveram meu problema:

  1. Reinstalar a nvidia: sudo apt-get install nvidia-361
