Problemas de desempenho do Linux Mint no VirtualBox

Eu instalei recentemente o Linux Mint 15 no VirtualBox em um host do Windows 8. Tudo parece OK, mas tenho sérios problemas com o desempenho do Firefox nele. Sites exibem com atraso ea entrada do teclado é horrível, eu posso escrever toda a cadeia de consulta no Google, mas nada é exibido no navegador (eu uso o motor de busca do site, não que incluído no Firefox). Outros programas parecem funcionar corretamente, embora eu tenha testado poucos deles que eu realmente preciso (como terminal, Sublime Text e Firefox).

O que é ainda mais estranho é o fato de eu ter instalado um convidado do Windows 7 em outra máquina virtual com exatamente as mesmas especificações e funcionar perfeitamente, sem problemas. Oque posso fazer para consertar isso? Além disso, existem alguns truques para fazer meu guest Linux funcionar sem problemas?

As especificações do meu laptop: Intel Core i7-3610QM 2.30GHz, 16GB de RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 660M em x64 Windows 8. E cada uma das VMs tem essa configuração: 8192 MB de RAM, 8 processadores virtuais e 128 MB de vídeo memória.

1) Tente aumentar a memória de vídeo virtual para 1024mb (ou definir no máximo, não se lembra do tamanho máximo permitido) e diminuir a memória RAM virtual em conformidade.

I had same problem running Min13 64 on a windows xp x64. The problem was related to chipset and audio controller used during virtual machine creation. Now using PIIX3 and ICH AC97 and after reinstalling Mint, both video and audio works smoothly

I had the same problem with xfce version. It turned out to be a simple mistake - I've chosen Ubuntu as OS option while creating VirtualBox machine. Once I recreated it with Ubuntu64 and reinstalled Mint, everything became fast and nice (2G on 1 CPU). No need to install additions either as they appear to be included with the distro.

Before making any changes, please make a backup of .mozilla/firefox/--------.default/prefs.js for your own safety. prefs.js is a file that stores all of your history and bookmarks from Firefox.

First open Firefox.

Type "about:config" (without quotes) in the Firefox address bar and then click "Enter". This command opens a configuration page that allows the user to change advanced system settings in Firefox.

Speed up page loading/rendering time in Firefox. Right-click anywhere in the "about:config" window, click on "New" and then select "String". Name the string "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" (without quotes). Enter a value of "0" and then click "OK". This tweak decreases the amount of time Firefox waits to render a page from 250 milliseconds to zero. Make the same process and name the string "content.notify.interval" and enter a value of "0".

Force Firefox to release reserved system RAM when the browser is minimized. Right-click anywhere in the "about:config" window, click on "New" and then select "Boolean". Name the entry "config.trim_on_minimize" (without quotes). Change the value to "True" and then click "OK". This setting forces Firefox to only reserve about 10 MB of system memory while minimized.

Normally Firefox only sends one or two tunnels to the website. However, the more tunnels you use the faster you go. To change this, type in filter bar "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" and change the value to "150". Attention: The more tunnels you use, the more bandwidth you use, meaning you could use as tunnels as you want but that would probably kill the sites bandwidth if everyone did that. 150 is a very good value.

Type "network.http.pipelining" in filter bar, and set it to "True" by double clicking it.

Eu tive problemas semelhantes e parece ter resolvido de outra forma para a resposta existente. Eu configurei o Mint 18.1 Cinnamon com ~ 5G de RAM de convidado, maximizando a RAM de gráficos para 128M, e suporte a gráficos 3D. Eu tenho um processador Intel i7 quad-thread de dois núcleos, então eu configurei o guest para usar duas CPUs virtuais.

O SO ocasionalmente eleva os dois CPUs convidados para ~ 30%, mesmo quando aparentemente ocioso, chegando a 60% ou mais quando o Firefox é usado. Todo o sistema era lento e os efeitos intensivos de gráficos, como o Show Workspaces, demoravam alguns segundos para aparecer. Arrastar janelas entre espaços de trabalho foi lento e doloroso.

Desde então, optei pela VM para usar quatro CPUs virtuais, embora eu realmente tenha apenas dois núcleos e, apesar do aviso no VirtualBox, isso possa diminuir o desempenho. Pelo contrário, abrir uma aba no Firefox que já tem trinta aberturas é muito mais rápido, e a animação da aba na aba não fica "presa" como antes.

Se você tentar isso e não tiver sorte, tente também baixar para uma única CPU. Eu já executei um Ubuntu LTS com uma única CPU virtual, e isso também funcionou bem.
