Western Digital: Erro de realocação do setor (código 226)

Eu tenho um WD Green quase novo, mas a garantia já expirou . Estava deitado em uma prateleira.

Eu gostaria de testá-lo antes de usar.

O primeiro passo que fiz foi executar um teste completo usando Data Lifeguard Tools . Este teste me dá um erro

0226 Sector Relocation Error

A recomendação oficial é para substituir a unidade. No entanto, é óbvio que o fornecedor está motivado para vender mais discos rígidos.

S.M.A.R.T. status diz que é zero remapeamento, então eu não tenho idéia do que o erro poderia estar aqui. Gostaria de saber se existe uma maneira de remapear os setores problemáticos?

A página da WD na Web a que você se refere é bastante clara sobre o significado do erro 226:

226 Sector Relocation Error

Failure to relocate a sector during drive repair. The drive has to be replaced.

Todos os discos têm um pequeno pool de back-up setores, que são usados para substituir setores defeituosos em duas fases distintas da vida útil do disco rígido, primeiro durante a fabricação e depois durante a operação normal do disco. Quando um setor ruim é encontrado, ele é marcado como defeituoso e, portanto, descomissionado, e substituído por um setor funcional de seu pool de reposição. Neste momento, o setor de pool de reposição é re-mapped para aparecer como ocorrendo na sequência lógica exatamente no mesmo ponto do setor comissionado.

É talvez útil observar que esses defeitos ocorrem mesmo imediatamente após a conclusão do processo de fabricação, e é uma prova da eficácia desses mecanismos de recuperação que a maioria nem sequer está remotamente ciente da existência dos defeitos e de a estratégia de recuperação. Em outras palavras, todos nós, o tempo todo, estamos usando discos parcialmente defeituosos.

Em algum momento, no entanto, o pool de reposição está esgotado, e nenhuma realocação ou remapeamento pode ocorrer. Quando isso ocorre, a perda de dados ocorrerá. Se um setor em uma posição crítica falhar (existem listas vinculadas em qualquer HDD), a maioria, se não todos os dados em todo o disco, será essencialmente perdida ou poderá ser recuperada apenas com algum esforço. Em qualquer caso, mesmo que a falha não ocorra em um setor crítico, isso acarretará perda de dados de algum tipo.

É por isso que a sugestão da WD para substituir o disco é boa; seu disco ainda está totalmente funcional, mas ainda assim. A mensagem do fabricante é basicamente um sinal you have been warned .

Você deve tentar encolher a partição e descobrir se deve fazê-lo no início ou no final dela. Isso é para evitar setores defeituosos que não podem ser substituídos por setores de backup (inexistentes).
