VLC quebra ao abrir preferências (Ubuntu 16.04)

Question

Quando eu abro o VLC (2.2.2) e pressiono CTRL + P ou abro as preferências da barra de menu, o VLC quebra da seguinte maneira:

A mídia ainda reproduz, a minimização e a maximização ainda funcionam, mas a barra de menus desaparece, nenhum botão na interface funciona e não consigo fechar o programa pelo botão X.

Eu removi e reinstalei o VLC com o apt-get, mas o problema persistiu. Estou usando o Ubuntu 16.04.
