Longa espera após o login Ubuntu Gnome 13.04, provavelmente relacionado à rede

Algumas informações básicas sobre o meu computador:

Ubuntu Gnome 13.04, Gnome 3.6.2.
Linux 3.8.0-34-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 12 18:00:10 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Recentemente, demora muito para que eu faça o login no desktop utilizável (cerca de meio minuto ou mais). Isso acontece somente no primeiro login após uma reinicialização, ou seja, se eu fizer logout e login, não espere muito.

Se eu inicializar com o cabo de rede desconectado, não espere muito.

Todas as instruções sobre como descobrir o que estava acontecendo durante esse período?

Mas presumo que o período de espera / suspensão esteja após o último registro de data e hora listado.
