Instalando o driver de gráficos no Ubuntu

Especificações: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ a 1987 MHz / 2 x 512 MB RAM DDR PC3200 / 128 MB GeForce 6200 AGP / WD 160 GB IDE HDD / FIC AM37 / DB: XP Pro SP3 & Ubuntu 9.10

Olá a todos,

Acabei de instalar o Ubuntu 9.10 (dentro do XP) na minha área de trabalho pela primeira vez e estou tentando instalar o driver da minha placa gráfica. Fui ao site da NVIDIA para baixar a versão de 32 bits do Linux do driver da série GeForce 6, que vem em formato .run. Eu clico duas vezes nele e ele começa a carregar no gedit, mas ele não é bem-sucedido porque o código do caractere não pôde ser detectado. Tentei executá-lo no Terminal, mas a permissão foi negada. Então, eu pesquisei como abrir um arquivo .run e cheguei a aqui onde usei o "chmod 755 [filename ] .run "no terminal.

Agora ele pode começar a descompactar, mas agora eu recebo uma nova mensagem dizendo "ERRO: nvidia-installer deve ser executado como root". Eu não tenho idéia do que fazer agora ... desde que eu sou um noob. XD

Como devo estar fazendo isso? Desde já, obrigado! =)

Go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers and check the box to enable the restricted drivers for your NVIDIA card if the option is provided.

If the restricted driver remains unactivated after attempting to activate it in the Hardware Drivers dialog, you may not have the appropriate linux headers installed to compile the driver. Ensure that the linux-headers-XXX and linux-restricted-modules-XXX packages are installed, where XXX matches the version of the kernel you are using (linux-image-XXX).

If the activation hangs on download/install dialog, you can install the driver using System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager, make sure you pick the latest driver version recommended by the "Hardware Drivers" tool and all its dependencies. Go to Hardware Drivers tool and activate the driver you just installed.

Esqueça o arquivo que você baixou.

Vá para Sistema - > Administração - > Drivers de hardware.
