Editar:
Antes de dizer que seu leitor de DVD não funciona, você deve saber que uma interface SATA pode ser usada com dois protocolos diferentes, IDE e AHCI. Vá para seus BIOs e verifique se você pode mudar de modo para o outro, desde o que você claramente não funciona.
Agora tente lshw novamente. Se não aparecer mais uma vez, então está quebrado.
