Eu instalei o Linux Redhat 6.3 na estação de trabalho VMware 9 como convidado para os hosts do Windows 7, mas não consegui fazer ping no convidado do host e não consegui fazer ping no nome do pc do convidado.
Eu configurei a ponte (VMnet0) e o adaptador adicional somente para host (VMnet1)

Eu fiz isso muito tempo para testes de desenvolvimento. Às vezes, o firewall também pode causar problemas. Tente desligá-lo e ver se funciona. Se você quiser pingar por nome, defina domain em seu arquivo de hosts. BTW, estou usando NAT
