Instala o NIS, mas não está em /etc/init.d

Estou tentando instalar o NIS em uma versão Ubuntu 14.04 de 32 bits. Eu instalei o portmap e o nis, e o sistema acha que eles estão OK:

rjc@slater:/etc/init.d$ sudo apt-get install portmap nis

depois de configurar os arquivos de configuração (por exemplo, yp.config), tentei iniciar o serviço NIS usando:

/etc/init.d/nis start

mas nis não está lá:

rjc@slater:/etc/init.d$ ls -al /etc/init.d/nis
ls: cannot access /etc/init.d/nis: No such file or directory

Qual passo estou faltando?

Usa o upstart e está em / etc / init /
