Instale o virtualbox no Ubuntu 10.10

Então eu tentei:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-4.1

E não funciona, como faço para instalá-lo..E também tenho uma imagem como faço para executar isso..Depois de instalar o VirtualBox Acabei de fazer ./image.vdi

Eu tentei ./image.vdi e recebo este erro:

./smon.vdi: line 1: syntax error near unexpected token '>'
./smon.vdi: line 1: '<<< Oracle VM VirtualBox Disk Image >>>'

Acho que não é assim que você inicia.
