O Visual Studio 2010 não será instalado, não detectará corretamente o Windows 7

Question

Tentando instalar a partir de uma imagem de disco obtida por meio da MSDNAA (um DVD x86 final), e o instalador insiste com veemência Estou executando um sistema operacional antiquado (é, na verdade, o Windows 7 x64). Eu tentei reiniciar o sistema e gravar um disco físico sem sucesso. Mesmo correu no modo de compatibilidade XP, por diversão (sem dados). Esquisito!

Alguém viu isso antes? Ou melhor ainda, tem uma solução?

Aqui está o erro que estou recebendo - pesquisar no Google e no Bing porque o texto ainda não encontrou nada de valor.

Editar Apenas uma atualização - eu reinstalei o Windows 7, bem como pegar o Service Pack 1, e agora estou recebendo um erro diferente ao tentar instalar o VS2010 em esta instalação limpa. Aqui está um trecho do log. Pelo que sei, o primeiro erro, seguido da longa lista de coisas que não foram instaladas, é repetido três vezes:

Talvez a imagem do disco tenha sido corrompida em trânsito?
