linux ping ip de origem incorreta

Eu tenho uma caixa Linux gerenciando o roteamento para minha rede.

Aqui estão algumas configurações relevantes (endereços IP públicos mascarados para 192.0.0.x):

Ok, então o PING funciona, mas minha pergunta permanece: por que o Linux está atribuindo o IP de origem da interface voltada ao público para pings destinados à interface interna?

O problema ficou evidente quando eu tinha uma máquina de teste que estava configurando na LAN interna que deliberadamente não tinha um gateway padrão. Assim, os PINGs estavam indo para a máquina proveniente de 192.0.0.2 e, portanto, as respostas da máquina nunca passavam pelo servidor (porque ele não tinha um gateway padrão configurado).

PINGs que vão para a caixa de gateway retornam corretamente, provavelmente porque seus IPs de origem estão definidos corretamente e, portanto, a resposta PING proveniente do gateway está usando o IP de origem correto para a resposta. / p>

Dado que a tabela de roteamento mostra a fonte correta, alguém pode explicar por que o IP de origem está errado e como corrigi-lo?
