O que a fonte /etc/network/interfaces.d/* faz na parte superior do arquivo / etc / network / interfaces?

Percebi que, por padrão, a linha abaixo está incluída em /etc/network/interfaces :

source /etc/network/interfaces.d/*

Qual é o propósito desta linha e o que ela realmente faz?

Na página de manual do Ubuntu interfaces :

Lines beginning with "source" are used to include stanzas from other files, so configuration can be split into many files. The word "source" is followed by the path of file to be sourced. Shell wildcards can be used. Currently only supports absolute path names.
