Limpar kernels antigos não funciona

Eu sou um novo usuário do Ubuntu, então, por favor, tenha paciência.

Tudo começou quando minha partição /root ficou cheia. Era obviamente muito pequeno e vou ter que redimensionar. Eu tentei remover kernels usando o Synaptic e vários comandos no Terminal sem sucesso. Esta é a saída mais recente:

O kernel atualmente em uso é o 3.16.0.40.

A ajuda será apreciada!

Como parte do processo de remoção, o apt-get tenta descompactar um arquivo para descobrir exatamente quais arquivos ele deve remover. No entanto, porque você não tem nenhum espaço no dispositivo, o apt-get não pode fazer isso e não pode liberar mais espaço.

Eu sugiro que você mova alguns arquivos grandes do seu sistema de arquivos raiz para outro sistema de arquivos (ou para um dispositivo USB ou qualquer outro), tente sudo apt-get autoremove --purge e então mova esses arquivos grandes de volta.
