Acho que posso não estar 100% claro no modelo de licenciamento da Microsoft para a edição Server 2012 Datacenter.

Li que o datacenter autoriza a execução de VMs ilimitadas, mas o Standard permite que você execute apenas 2. Isso é meramente uma autorização, o que significa que ainda precisaria de uma licença padrão para a VM guest ou significa que um datacenter licença "Licenças" para executar VMs ilimitadas, o que significa que não preciso de licenças individuais para VMs convidadas.
