Como instalo o Sun Java JRE mais recente no Ubuntu Server 9.10?

Infelizmente, se eu tentar instalar o sun-java através do apt-get, ele não será encontrado nos repositórios.

# apt-get install sun-java6-jre

Se eu tentar instalá-lo usando a lixeira do site da Sun, aqui está o problema:

# ./jre-6u18-linux-i586.bin
