Não é possível obter o .htaccess para trabalhar

Estou usando o Apache2 no Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. Eu tenho configurado para usar .htaccess como normal. Este é o meu site padrão:

Eu também tentei minúsculas "all" ( AllowOverride all ).

Meu arquivo .htaccess tem esta aparência:

(com mydomain substituído pelo meu domínio real ... e meu computador está conectado)

Correto (adicione espaço entre o domínio e '[NC]'):

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mydomain.com$ [NC]
