apt-get não consegue encontrar o pacote em uma versão antiga da minha distro

Question

Estou trabalhando em um computador Linux Mint 16 e, desde então, toda vez que quero instalar algo via apt-get install , a mensagem de log informa que os pacotes não puderam ser autenticados. Eu vou em frente e tento instalá-los sem authetication e acontece que a maioria dos pacotes não são encontrados.

No final do processo, a mensagem do console sugere que eu use apt-get update ou --fix-missing . Então é isso que eu faço: sudo apt-get update e imediatamente depois de tentar instalar novamente com sudo apt-get install nginx , mas ainda recebo o mesmo erro de mensagem.

Qual é o problema? Estou faltando alguma coisa?

Nota: eu teria copiado / colado os logs, mas eles estão em espanhol, então eles provavelmente não teriam sido de muita ajuda para a maioria.

ATUALIZAÇÃO: Consegui obter os logs em inglês graças ao @Flup.

O que me ajudou foi:

Basicamente atualizando as listas para usar old-releases.ubuntu.com:

sudo sed -i -e 's/archive.ubuntu.com\|security.ubuntu.com/old-releases.ubuntu.com/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo sed -i -e 's/archive.ubuntu.com\|security.ubuntu.com/old-releases.ubuntu.com/g' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list
sudo sed -i -e 's/archive.ubuntu.com\|security.ubuntu.com/old-releases.ubuntu.com/g' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-source-repositories.list

Editar: como Meisam Mulla disse nos comentários , se seus urls nos arquivos /etc/apt/sources.list forem prefixados com algo ( ca. por exemplo) você precisará remover os prefixos manualmente, como ca.old-releases.ubuntu.com não é um endereço válido.

Se você pegar um dos URLs que der um erro 404 e colocá-lo no seu navegador, verá que também obtém o erro 404. Isso pode ser temporário ou um erro do servidor, portanto, o que você pode fazer é procurar a estrutura de diretórios até que seu URL seja http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/ .

Lá, você verá subdiretórios para lucid (10.04), precise (12.04), saucy (13.10), trusty (14.04) e utopic (14.10). Os números são os números de versão do Ubuntu correspondentes. Outros são Fim de vida, não são mais suportados e não devem ser usados. Mint 16 deve ser um derivado de 13.10 então não está claro por que seu sistema tenta obter algo de 13.04.

Você pode tentar atualizar as entradas em /etc/apt/sources.lst e /etc/sources.list.d/* de raring para saucy e tentar se isso ajudar, mas você pode quebrar o sistema instalando versões incompatíveis ( faça uma primeiro backup ).
