O que há de novo no Kernel 3.0?

Então, o que há de tão novo nisso que Linus decidiu nomear 3.0? Eu não estou tentando obter informações sobre os drivers que entraram ou coisas que sempre melhoram. Eu quero saber o que realmente fez isso 3.0. Eu li em algum lugar que Linus queria se livrar do código que suporta hardware legado. Hm, não tenho certeza do que isso realmente significa, porque o 3.0 é maior (em MB), não menor que, digamos, 2.6.38.

I decided to just bite the bullet, and call the next version 3.0. It will get released close enough to the 20-year mark, which is excuse enough for me, although honestly, the real reason is just that I can no longe rcomfortably count as high as 40.

Eu já vi algumas razões, meu favorito é que é para comemorar 20 anos de Linux. Independentemente disso, não há nenhuma mudança notável entre as versões, o próprio Linus é inflexível quanto a isso; este não é um Gnome 3.0 ou um KDE 4.
