O CentOS 7 corresponde ao Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, lançado em junho de 2014. O dnf foi feito o substituto do yum no Fedora 23, lançado em novembro de 2015. Não há nenhuma provisão para fazer mudanças fundamentais em um lançamento como esse. As alterações feitas em um release são incrementais, talvez adicionando recursos, mas nunca removendo recursos existentes e substituindo por outros.
Uma versão futura do CentOS provavelmente terá dnf , a menos que a Red Hat escolha outra ferramenta quando a Red Hat lançar a versão 8 , etc.

CentOS conforms fully with Red Hat, Inc's redistribution policies and aims to be functionally compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. CentOS mainly changes packages to remove trademarked vendor branding and artwork.
