If you are building compiler tools for cross-compiling, you can also use the --target=TYPE option to select the type of system they will produce code for and the --build=TYPE option to select the type of system on which you are compiling the package.

Pelo que eu sei sobre o seu sistema a partir da sua pergunta, você não precisa construir cross, então um simples ./configure no diretório de nível superior poderia realmente fazer o truque (ou gerar novos erros, falhar com Invalid configuration 'amd64-unknown-freebsd8.2': machine 'amd64-unknown' not recognized aqui. ..portável? não parece).

Edit: Como você observou, o projeto parece um pouco podre. Você poderia tentar procurar uma alternativa. Se o seu problema é "converter um arquivo de texto simples em um documento PDF", algum módulo Perl para criação de PDF pode ser um caminho a percorrer, já que o Perl é adequado para o processamento de texto simples. (E há ( La ) TeX e CONTEXTO , é claro.

Eu tive um erro semelhante, sem falha:

../configure --with-gtk=3 --with-cxx=11  --with-pic=yes --disable-shared --enable-static --enable-compat28 -enable-unicode  --build=x86_64      --prefix=mypath/opt

configure: error: /bin/sh ../config.sub /home/alexb/opt failed OI

Adicione a opção --build = x86_64 (não lembre onde a encontrei) e elimine o espaço depois de '--prefix ='
