Por que é necessário atualizar o / etc / default / grub, e não apenas salvá-lo?

Eu entendo que o arquivo grub contém algumas instruções que são necessárias antes de inicializar, como: inicializar em texto ou inicializar no modo Gráfico.

Minha pergunta é por que preciso de update-grub ? Por que salvar o arquivo depois de fazer alterações não funcionaria?

update-grub gera o arquivo grub.cfg do grub, que o grub lê na inicialização, com base na configuração do grub em /etc/default/grub . (O Grub não lê /etc/default/grub na inicialização).
