Como instalar daemontools no ubuntu ou debian a partir da fonte

Estou instalando o daemontools do D.J.B. em um servidor do Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bits).

(Esta questão é sobre daemontools , que é um software livre e aberto para gerenciar serviços UNIX. Não se trata de 'ferramentas DAEMON', que é um software comercial para imagens de disco, rodando no Windows.)

Instalei pela primeira vez o pacote build-essential e depois segui as instruções no link 1: 1, mas falha:

Eu também tentei fazer isso no debian squeeze, o resultado é similar: link

Eu sei que posso instalar daemontools a partir do Ubuntu e também do repositório Debian, mas como eu mesmo compilo?

Nesse meio tempo eu consegui compilar e instalar no Debian Squeeze, Ubuntu e também no CentOS 6.0 e funciona. Acho que o patch do link estava corrigindo-o.

1) Instale uma cadeia de ferramentas

Para o Debian e Ubuntu: apt-get install build-essential

Para o CentOS yum groupinstall 'Development Tools'

2) Siga as instruções no link , mas ainda não execute o comando package/install

3) Aplique o patch de link para src/conf-cc

4) Agora execute o comando package/install .
