Que tipo de dano existe ao remover (expurgar) o pacote apt-xapian-index?

Eu sei que você não pode usar o Filtro rápido no Synaptic depois de limpar o apt-xapian-index, mas há algo mais grave?

Não há nada de grave. Você pode perder algumas funcionalidades (veja a descrição abaixo), mas se você não precisa, você pode remover o pacote (apenas tome cuidado para não desinstalar nenhum outro pacote). Se mais tarde você descobrir que foi um erro, poderá instalá-lo novamente.

Eu o removi porque, em um computador de oito anos de idade, às vezes, ele causava um bom desligamento. Não notou nenhum efeito negativo.

É um bug conhecido, mas parece que não há problema em removê-lo:

update-apt-xapian-index atrasa o sistema

Provavelmente, definir bom para 15 e ionice para ficar ocioso para apt-xapian-index processo poderia resolver o problema pendente.
