Na lista DAEMONS
que você postou, você tem gdm
e slim
. Eu não acho que você pode rodar ambos no mesmo display, e você provavelmente não quer gdm
de qualquer maneira, então apenas remova-o da lista.
Estou tentando alterar meu gerenciador de login para SLiM e o tema que eu quero para minha tela de login é archlinux- simplesmenteblack:

Para executar o SLiM no momento da inicialização, editei meu /etc/rc.conf
um peso adicional em DAEMONS
(não alterei meu /etc/inittab
):
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus hal networkmanager net-profiles net-auto-wireless crond alsa gdm slim)
Eu criei o ~/.initrc
:

exec gnome-session
E também crie ~/.initrc
executável:
