Funcionou depois que instalei a v5.1. de VBox e fez uma nova instalação de Kali. A atualização de 5.0 com 5.1 com o Kali instalado atrapalhou a VM por algum motivo.
Estou tentando instalar adições de convidados do VirtualBox para o Kali Linux no Oracle VBox 5, conforme especificado no kali linux página .
Quando eu corro:
apt-get update
apt-get install -y virtualbox-guest-x11
virtualbox-guest-x11 não possui a dependência xorg-video-abi-19 , mas não consigo encontrar uma maneira de instalar.
root@kali:~# apt-get install -y virtualbox-guest-x11

Como alternativa, quando tento o procedimento descrito para distros mais antigas, instalei com sucesso:
apt-get update && apt-get install -y linux-headers-$(uname -r)
No entanto, depois de executar ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run , recebo o seguinte:
root@kali:~# ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox 5.0.24 Guest Additions for Linux............
VirtualBox Guest Additions installer
Removing installed version 5.0.24 of VirtualBox Guest Additions...
Removing existing VirtualBox non-DKMS kernel modules ...done.

Building the VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel modules
The headers for the current running kernel were not found. If the following

Se alguém puder fornecer uma solução para a instalação de adições de convidados do VB, isso seria ótimo.
EDITAR:
Depois de executar o apt-get install build-essential dkms
O segundo erro muda para:
root@kali:~# ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
