Sobrescrevendo meu arquivo /etc/apt/sources.list com as linhas acima e usando apt-get update seguido por apt-get upgrade resolvi o problema.

Inicialmente meu arquivo /etc/apt/sources.list continha essas duas linhas

deb http://http.kali.org/kali sana main non-free contrib deb http://security.kali.org/kali-security/ sana/updates main contrib non-free

Eu obtive a solução de uma das respostas neste fórum

Seu /etc/apt/sources.list deve conter:     deb link principal contribuição não-livre do kali-rolling
