O script apresentado abaixo permite definir um ícone ou emblema do repositório do github (mas não ambos), além de redefinir os metadados de volta ao padrão. O uso é muito simples, conforme explicado pela opção -h :

Portanto, se quisermos pesquisar recursivamente a pasta base de todos os repositórios github e definir seu emblema, faremos set_folder_icon.py -e myemblemname -r $HOME ou apenas cd; set_folder_icon.py -e myemblemname
Para um melhor desempenho, crie o diretório ~/bin e armazene o script como set_folder_icon.py . Se você quiser usá-lo imediatamente, execute source ~/.bashrc . Se você estiver usando um shell diferente, assegure-se de que seu ~/bin seja adicionado à variável $PATH .
OBSERVAÇÃO : O script pode usar qualquer arquivo arbitrário com a opção --icon , mas --emblem exige que você tenha um arquivo específico para ser armazenado em ~/.local/share/icons com nome do arquivo, algo como emblem-github . Veja a seção O script em ação para um exemplo

Por acaso mantenho todos os meus repositórios github na pasta ~/GIT . Nas imagens abaixo, você pode ver como todos os repositores do github colocam seu emblema no personalizado.

Automatizando o script
É claro, podemos executar o script manualmente a cada vez (na verdade, eu provavelmente criaria uma função que possa combinar git clone e executar esse script), embora eu recomende que você faça o script ser executado sempre que você fizer logon na sua sessão GUI. Para fazer isso, abra o menu Startup Applications e adicione o script (usando caminhos completos e nomes de arquivos completos é recomendado) como uma entrada.
