mysql removendo completamente

Eu quebrei meu mysql e agora quero reinstalá-lo completamente. Eu tentei:

$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall mysql-server
$ sudo apt-get remove --purge mysql-client mysql-server

Mas sempre vejo popup com proposta de alterar a senha do root, eu mudo e recebo um erro que eu posso mudar ..

$ sudo apt-get remove --purge mysql-client mysql-server

É bom para mim que eu não tenha nenhum banco de dados importante, mas ...

Eu removi os seguintes pacotes e, em seguida, reinstalei o servidor mysql:

sudo apt-get --purge remove mysql-server-5.1 mysql-server-5.5
sudo apt-get install mysql-server
