Vagrant incapaz de localizar o Virtualbox

Em Ubuntu 16.04.01

Usando vagrant 1.8.1 e virtualbox 5.1.12 . Eu já defini

VBOX_INSTALL_PATH=/usr/bin/virtualbox
VBOX_MSI_INSTALL_PATH=/usr/bin/virtualbox

Obtendo o seguinte erro:

$ vagrant up
No usable default provider could be found for your system.

Vagrant relies on interactions with 3rd party systems, known as
"providers", to provide Vagrant with resources to run development
environments. Examples are VirtualBox, VMware, Hyper-V.

The easiest solution to this message is to install VirtualBox, which
is available for free on all major platforms.

If you believe you already have a provider available, make sure it
is properly installed and configured. You can see more details about
why a particular provider isn't working by forcing usage with
'vagrant up --provider=PROVIDER', which should give you a more specific
error message for that particular provider.

como também este:

$ vagrant up --provider=VIRTUALBOX
The provider 'VIRTUALBOX' could not be found, but was requested to
back the machine 'default'. Please use a provider that exists.

Parece haver um problema de compatibilidade com as versões específicas do vagrant e do virtualbox.

Uma solução alternativa parece ser a seguinte:

A.

cd /usr/share/vagrant/plugins/providers/virtualbox/driver

edite meta.rb e adicione

"5.1" => Version_5_1

abaixo da linha: "5.0" => Version_5_0, (deve estar na linha 63)

B.

cd /usr/share/vagrant/plugins/providers/virtualbox/

edite plugin.rb e adicione

autoload :Version_5_1, File.expand_path("../driver/version_5_1", __FILE__)

abaixo da linha: autoload :Version_5_0, File.expand_path("../driver/version_5_0", __FILE__) (deve estar na linha 58)

C.

cd /usr/share/vagrant/plugins/providers/virtualbox/driver

crie um arquivo chamado version_5_1.rb com esses conteúdos .

Espero que isso resolva o problema.
