Por que não se deve especificar o FQDN em alguns lugares na configuração do BIND?

No momento, estou lendo o link . Tem dois conselhos que ainda não entendi.

1. Primeiro:

   I must stress that in the named.conf file there should not be .'s after the domain names. You have no idea how many times a .' too many or few have fouled up things and confused the h*ll out of people.

   Então, o que há de ruim em colocar ponto no final do FQDN, já que as opções de pesquisa contêm FQDN?
