O que eu resolvi como uma correção é usar nvidia-xconfig --query-gpu-info
para obter o BusID e depois alimentá-lo novamente para nvidia-xconfig
para atualizar o arquivo XF86Config. Aqui está a linha de script que faz isso:
nvidia-xconfig --connected-monitor="CRT" --busid='nvidia-xconfig --query-gpu-info | grep BusID | sed 's/PCI BusID : PCI:/PCI:/''
