O SSH está permitindo conexões remotas somente após um login local no servidor

Instalei o Ubuntu Server 16.04 de 32 bits no meu antigo notebook conectado à Internet (IP externo). Desde o começo eu adicionei o ufw e o Fail2ban. Mas depois descobri que após a reinicialização não consegui acessar o servidor remotamente.

Depois de muitas tentativas eu pude finalmente entender que não foi porque eu configurei exceções no Fail2ban ou porque eu desabilitei o ufw, o servidor ssh aceitou conexões remotas novamente (temporariamente, até a próxima reinicialização).

O que está acontecendo no meu caso é que o ssh começa a responder somente depois de um login local no servidor.

Alguma sugestão? Algo relacionado à criptografia do meu diretório de usuários, talvez?

O problema é que, enquanto você não está logado no sistema, sua pasta pessoal é criptografada e o arquivo ~/.ssh/authorized_keys está inacessível.

Uma solução simples é descrita na seção Solução de problemas do artigo SSH / OpenSSH / Keys de help.ubuntu.com .

  

Para resolver isso, crie uma pasta fora de sua casa com o nome    /etc/ssh/<username> (substitua <username> pelo seu nome de usuário real).   Esse diretório deve ter 755 permissões e ser de propriedade do usuário.   Mova o arquivo authorized_keys para ele. O arquivo authorized_keys deve   tem 644 permissões e pertence ao usuário.

     

Em seguida, edite seu /etc/ssh/sshd_config e adicione:

AuthorizedKeysFile    /etc/ssh/%u/authorized_keys

Se você quiser fazer isso para o usuário atual (e está no grupo sudoers), a linha de comando pode se parecer com:

sudo mkdir /etc/ssh/$USER
sudo mv $HOME/.ssh/authorized_keys /etc/ssh/$USER/
sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /etc/ssh/$USER
sudo chmod 755 /etc/ssh/$USER
sudo chmod 644 /etc/ssh/$USER/authorized_keys

* Onde $USER e $HOME são envvars que contêm o nome de usuário e o diretório pessoal do usuário atual.

Em seguida, edite seu /etc/ssh/sshd_config e altere a diretiva AuthorizedKeysFile desta maneira:

#AuthorizedKeysFile %h/.ssh/authorized_keys
AuthorizedKeysFile /etc/ssh/%u/authorized_keys

Reinicie o servidor SSH:

sudo systemctl restart ssh.service

É isso.
