Computador usando o disco rígido no lugar da RAM?

Estou fazendo um trabalho escolar sobre componentes de computadores e me deparei com essa informação.

you will find that if you don’t have enough RAM it can really bog down your computer. This is because your operating system will try to use your hard drive and your hard drive is a lot slower than the RAM.

Eu não entendo isso e não quero aprender os fatos errados, alguém poderia esclarecer isso e se é verdade ou não?

É verdade mesmo. Chama-se Paging, & seu computador fará isso automaticamente para você. Para a maioria dos usuários casuais, nenhuma intervenção é necessária, mas se a sua máquina começar a paginar, sim, ela ficará mais lenta.
