Você tentou reinicializar? Muitas vezes isso pode corrigir isso imediatamente.

O problema é que quando tento executar o "start mynodeprogram", recebo o erro de floowing:
root@v:/# start mynodeprogram
start: Unable to connect to Upstart: Failed to connect to socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Connection refused
Eu instalei o upstart com o seguinte comando:
root@v:~# apt-get install upstart
