Debian VM no tráfego lento do Virtualbox

Estou usando uma VM do Debian Buster no VirtualBox como um roteador para o meu notebook Windows 10. [por motivos que não vale a pena mencionar aqui]

Funcionou bem por alguns dias, mas ontem e hoje o tráfego se tornou anormalmente lento e não confiável - na minha rede relativamente estável em casa. Os outros dispositivos, incluindo a máquina host, estavam funcionando bem. A reinicialização da VM (e apenas da VM) corrige-a por um [pequeno] enquanto, no entanto, o problema volta irritantemente em pouco tempo.

Após uma inspeção mais detalhada, também tenho logs de erros no console e no /var/log/syslog .

Minhas interfaces eth0 e eth1, que estão dando problemas / erros semelhantes, são placas de interface de rede virtual.

O verdadeiro host do equipamento é um Lenovo ThinkPad E560 Intel i7 com um Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 que é o verdadeiro NIC por trás do eth0 NAT.

No entanto, eth1 é uma interface de rede virtual de uma rede interna que apenas fala com outra interface de rede virtual no host do Windows e não está de forma alguma associada a placas de interface de rede real ou com tráfego externo. Assim, o problema não parece estar associado apenas à rede (externa / real) ou às interfaces físicas da máquina host.

A versão do Virtual Box é 5.2.12 r122591 (Qt5.6.2). Eu também instalei ferramentas do Virtual Box na VM em questão.

Em última análise, com sorte, googling para "perder aleatoriamente conexão no vbox e os erros, eu tropecei em pessoas sugerindo que a emulação de Intel NIC padrão estava causando problemas de instabilidade e desempenho. Muitas pessoas aleatórias apenas sugerindo que depois de mudar o NIC virtual da Intel para outra coisa a instabilidade foi embora (infelizmente sem nenhuma sugestão de por que isso está acontecendo).

Então eu dei uma olhada, e eis que, de fato em "VM Virtualbox Manager" interface- > nome VM- > Configurações- > Rede- > Avançado- > Tipo de adaptador "Eu tinha a NIC virtual padrão virtual " Intel Pro 1000 MT Desktop (8254OEM ) ".

Como tal, encerrei a VM em questão.

Sabendo que eu já tinha as ferramentas VBox instaladas e aproveitando minha experiência em outro ambiente virtual onde as NICs paravirtualizadas oferecem muito mais desempenho e exigem menos esforço de CPU, alterei o tipo de NIC padrão para "Rede Paravirtualizada (virtio-net)" "nas duas interfaces que uso.

Enquanto no passado VirtIO costumava ser conhecido no VirtualBox por estar com bugs, ele parece estar se saindo bem nos meus testes.

A diferença de velocidade no tráfego de roteamento foi abismal e os erros desapareceram completamente.

PS. Eu suspeito que isso seja um bug de caixa vbox na emulação de uma placa NIC "física", e não tendo nada a ver com o meu hardware real. Eu mudei primeiro eth0, comecei a ter problemas na eth1 também e mudei ambos. Parece que a emulação Intel VNIC estava dando problemas em eth0 e eth1 ao mesmo tempo. Como eu digo na pergunta agora , a eth1 agora está associada a uma NIC física.

PS2. Sim, eu sei que a paravirtualização geralmente dá um impulso. A questão central aqui foi livrar-se da séria instabilidade.
