Como explicado em É possível alterar ambientes de desktops afetando meus programas / dados pessoais? , instalar (ou remover) um determinado ambiente de desktop não deve afetar nenhum outro ambiente de desktop que você tenha atualmente no seu sistema. É apenas sobre a instalação / remoção de um monte de pacotes, que apt garante são independentes uns dos outros (dois pacotes diferentes não podem instalar exatamente o mesmo arquivo no mesmo caminho).

Dito isto, depende de como você executa o procedimento de desinstalação. Se, por exemplo, você considera que lightdm faz parte do Xubuntu e remove (não!), E você não tem nenhum outro display manager disponível, então você pode inutilizar seu sistema. Portanto, se você seguir outras respostas que sugiram remover uma lista muito específica de pacotes, certifique-se de verificar manualmente cada um deles que não há nada que possa ser crucial para o seu sistema.

Agora, para uma maneira segura de remover Xfce , se eu quiser fazer isso no sistema, proceda da seguinte maneira:

Agora antes você vai em frente e diga "sim" acima, observe atentamente a lista de pacotes, identifique aqueles que não deseja remover (digamos, blueman e Thunar ) , faça uma lista. Após a conclusão da remoção, reinstale esses pacotes:
